triglav

Triglav (Italian: Tricorno, German: Terglau) is the highest mountain in Slovenia and the highest peak of the Julian Alps. While its name, meaning "three-headed", can describe its shape as seen from the Bohinj area, the mountain was most probably named after the Slavic god Triglav. This hypothesis has been disputed, as the nature of this deity remains obscure, and its worship is not documented among the pagan ancestors of Slovenes. The first recorded ascent of Triglav was made on 26 August 1778, by Luka Korošec, Matija Kos, Štefan Rožič and Lovrenc Willomitzer, on the initiative of baron Sigismund Zois. Its height was first measured in 1808 by Valentin Stanič.

This crater-like snow hollow, which is over 10 metres deep, was gouged out by a strong 30-metre high waterfall that appears each spring. If there is enough snow, the tub can be up to 30 -meter deep. There are still two farmsteads in the valley where one can listen to the zither: at Matk farmstead and at Gradišnik, where there is also an archery track. The zither was the most common instrument in this region, in the past it could be heard in every farmstead.

slap_kristal
Waterfall Kristal in Logarska dolina. IThis trough-like valley was created by the play of the nature deep in the heart of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, enshrouded by the lofty peaks of Kroficka, Ojstrica, Lučka Baba, Planjava, Brana, Turska Gora and Rinke, all of which rise above 2,000 metres. The foundations of the picturesque Alpine valley one can enjoy today were in fact laid down during the last Ice Age when a huge glacier abraded a 7-km long, 250-m wide "U" shaped basin. The valley is divided into three parts: the lower tract is called Log, the central one Plest, whilst the upper part is known as Kot. Log and Plest are covered by meadows, whilst Kot is partially forested. Behind the green scenery of the forest one can hear the magnificent cascading of the Rinka Waterfall.
