Depurte day for the Himalaya trekking 2012 is 20 April 2012. We all met before on our Raduha tour. You will be able to follow the news from our trekking from this site.
To follow us in picture look into the GALLERY.
Day 1 - 20. April 2012 Ljubljana - München - Oman - Kathmandu
A pleasant and calm flight, good food, nice people. At the end the landing in Kathmandu was due to the wind rather hard, but never mind. Namaste Nepal.
Day 2 - 21 April 2012 Kathmandu
Same old in Kathmandu. Busy, archaic vehicles, jammed shops, bartering, diversity of people, peace in the hotel. After all that getting ready for tomorrow's flight up high, from where we will first see the magnificant peaks.
Day 3 - 22 April 2012 Kathmandu - Lukla (2840 m) - Monjo (2835 m)
After arriving to Lukla we set off for Monjo. Beautiful nature begins, high mountains are visible and the first views open up. it’s getting a bit cloudy so we hurry up. We reach Monjo in good four hours. There’s the already known, nice lodge waiting for us. As soon as we step inside, it starts raining. We have a rest for a while, unpack the necessary things and head for dinner – rice or pasta. At 20.00 we are already in beds and fast asleep.
Day 4 - 23 April 2012 Monjo (2835 m) - Namche Bazar (3440 m)
Today we are heading from Monjo towards Namche Bazar. Short but steep. First there is a big descent towards the river that forms this valley, then equally steep up on 3340 m, which is approximately 600 m higher than we were in the morning. Namche Bazar is the highest “city” in this area, being the centre of it all. It is mainly a trade centre. Everything from a needle to almost an elephant can be bought here. In the afternoon we set off for an acclimatisation tour towards Kyangjum, so that our bodies will be grateful to us that we sleep a bit lower. Afterwards there’s dinner, chatting around and off to sleep.
Day 5 - 24. 4. 2012 Namche Bazar (3440 m) - Pangboche (3930 m)
The path is nice, the heath immense. We pass by the Tengboche monastery, which is one of the biggest Buddhist monasteries in the Himalaya. On our way back we are going to take a closer look at it, plus taste some other sweetness of the place.
Day 6 - 25. 4. 2012 Pangboche (3930 m) - Dingboche (4410 m)
We have decided to go a bit higher towards Dingboche. There are nice views opening up, also of those mountains where snow never disappears.
Day 7 - 26. 4. 2012 Dingboche (4410 m) - Lobuche (4920 m)
With the altitude the air is not getting only thinner, but also colder. However we are not willing to give up. The time when we are about to see the great giants of the Himalaya is getting closer.
Day 8 - 27. 4. 2012 Lobuche (4920 m) - Gorak Shep (5140 m)
In Gorak Shep nothing has changed since last year. Because we are in a good mood and in great condition we set off for the Everest Base Camp already today. There is about 45 expeditions with more than 1000 climbers who are waiting for the right moment to conquer the roof of the world.
Day 9 - 28. 4. 2012 Gorak Shep (5140 m) - Kala Patthar (5550 m) - Dingboche (4410 m)
In the morning we head off towards Kala Patthar at the height of 5550 m, from where we hope to experience a unique moment in the realms of the highest mountain of the world. The weather is great and in a bit more than two hours we are at the top. The views over Mt Everest, Nuptse and other giants open up. Heavenly.
Day 10 - 29. 4. 2012 Dingboche (4410 m) - Chukkung (4730 m)
A rather long way towards one of the nicest village as well as valleys in the Himalaya. The number of trekkers drops and the world stops again. We need about 5 hours to reach the village.
Day 11 - 30. 4. 2012 Chukkung (4730 m) - Chukkung Ri (5550 m) - Dingboche (4410 m)
Early in the morning we set off for the 5550 m high Chukkung Ri. On the top there are magnificent views waiting for us. We can see the Lhotse wall, Ama Dablam and all the way to Makalu. When we are back in the valley, we go down towards Dingboche where we spend the night.

On the way to we stop in the village Periche where we visit the pyramid on which all the names of those who lost their lives on Mt Everest are written down. We continue towards Tengboche, where we passed a few days ago. Before we reach the village, we visit the Deboche women monastery. In Tengboche we head for the cakes in the local patisserie, which is real treat after the long trekking. Tomorrow we are heading back to Namche Bazar.
Day 13 - 2. 5. 2012 Tengboche (3860 m) - Khumjung (3780 m) - Namche Bazar (3440 m)
